ATS-3 is the oldest active communications satellite by a wide margin. Launched in November, 1967, it is still in service over 26 years later (as of this writing).

It took the first full-disk, color Earth images transmitted from a satellite. It has been used in disater situations from Mexico earthquake to the Mount St. Helens eruption.
